• Web sessions expire too quickly

From Kirkman@VERT/GUARDIAN to All on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 16:53:13
I often use the web interface to read the message bases when I don't have telnet access,

One problem I am running into recently is that my login seems to expire very quickly. For example, I might login, read a couple messages and compose a reply. But when I click "post message" I get this error:

"You don't have sufficient rights to post in this sub"

The only solution is to login again. This happens a *lot*. For example, in the last ten minutes I've had to login twice to post two messages.

I've been seeing this in Safari and Chrome on both Mac and PC.

Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas how I might keep it from happening?

Which the web interface? ecWeb, the ugly stock one, or one of the other ones like ssajax-forum?

Didnt know you could get different web interfaces for Synchronet. Either I am looking in the wrong spot, or they exist elsewhere, as I have never seen them on vertrauen. Of course was not specifically looking for them

Ah, it's on Vert then? That's the ugly stock one. If that one is logging you out, it's a problem with your browser. When you log in, your browser is supposed to stay that way as long as it's opened.

    The stock one.

I tried tracking down one of the other custom ones, but never successfully found it.

Sorry Deuce. Was not me having the problem. I was just wondering where the other other web interface was available, as I had not heard about it.

ummm... the ecWEB interface is included in "recent" synchronet SVN (or CVS) updates... it is in a subdirectory of the web directory IIRC... there's one line in one file that gets changed to enable it and start using it...

i seem to recall there also being an option on the web interface(s) where one can choose different "themes" and the ecWEB interface is one of those themes...
i think... it has been almost a year since i messed around in there and i can't
get to that machine to snoop around right now...

There's a page on the Synchronet wiki that provides setup instructions, which involve making edits to one or two files. I'd like to make the setup even easier than it is, as there are some kludgy things happening at the moment.

ecweb is intended to be a full replacement for the stock Synchronet web interface, and has its own internal way of allowing for different 'themes' and layouts, etc. The stock web interface does have a themeing/templating system to it (which some people have used to decent effect,) but ecweb is separate from this and is not a theme in and of itself.
