From Ascii Express@VERT/DMINE to All on Saturday, January 11, 2014 00:54:18
Hello. I wanted to try to get some doors working before going public. I noticed a bunch of awesome looking games in the xtrn/ directory. However I can't seem to get things working. So far I just have the games which came pre-installed. Fat Fish works, but all of the others result in the following error:

!JavaScript /home/bbs/sbbs/exec/xtrn_sec.js line 135: uncaught exception: error 0 connecting to TCP port 10088 on server localhost

The wiki didn't turn up anything. Also I notice the command line starts with a question mark (?) but the docs don't seem to say what that means. A * means a module. I'd appreciate any help.

a command line starting with ? means it's javascript, a command line starting with * means it's either baja OR javascript. same result in the end, if it's javascript, which it is.

read sysop.doc for one of the games, and it will explain what you need to do in order to run those games. simply put, you need to set up and configure json-service

Yes thank you! I looked at the offending line number and saw something about JSON so had started wondering about something like that. Thanks a ton.

I certainly will - my original reason for switching to Synchronet. I started trying last night but clearly have some work to do because nothing happened. Dosemu works fine. I created an emusetup.bat. I have to go reread the wiki again.

It may be hard to imagine, but some BBS software and doors have advanced since the DOS days. Some sysops might choose to offer something a bit more modern and maybe something unique too. But as God's gift to BBSing, I suppose you know what's best. ;)

bbs softwares may have, but doors havent got any better.

people still would rather play the games i mentioned than some preinstalled .js script.

as god's gift to bbsing, i go by what i have seen and i have seen a lot. and i do know what's best. you do something enough and you'll be a pro at it also. ---

    indeed.

heaven forbid we mix some modern features into the stagnant pool of nostalgia.
