does it say when that comment was posted, because I haven't heard too many updates about sbbs's dialup app with the funny name...

Deuce recommends using mgetty (http://wiki.synchro.net/util:sexpots#linux_unix_version), or if you want there's a early build of sexpots for linux at cvs.synchro.net, but I would get mgetty on your system and look through the documentation.

(can you tell i'm not on Linux?)

Does SexPOTS work with virtual modems ? (eg. an inbound call via TCP/IP on COM/IP or NetSerial) ?

I want to be able to pass BBS callers from an external frontend mailer to WINServer. Unfortunately WINServer only works with Platinum Xpress (a proprietary mailer).

I am not sure how SexPOTS works, but I am hoping it can interoperate a frontend mailer like Radius or Frontdoor with the Wildcat telnet server.

If an external mailer like Frontdoor can exit without dropping carrier, and then SexPOTS can pickup and resume carrier and forward the connection on to WINServer, then SexPOTS might solve my problem.

It should so long as the virtual modem presents itself as a COM port to the OS (e.g. Windows).

No, FOSSIL is a 16-bit DOS/PC-BIOS thing. 32-bit programs can't (and don't need to) use FOSSIL drivers.

I have used TelSrv (which was the predecessor to Net2BBS). To my knowledge, these are telnet servers, and will not handle com ports the same way as virtual modems. Can Net2BBS be put in front of a frontend mailer or between the frontend mailer and the BBS ?

The handle value would be ephemeral (not predictable) and a value returned by the original program that opened the com port (e.g. via open() or OpenFile()). So... likely not '2' either.

netfoss has always been free. (you can also run 32bit doors like mannirc on 16 bit bbses)

netserial is 30 day free trial. it is 90usd for one license. from what i've seen, it's a good product.

No, COM port are accessed via a COM handle (on Windows). It's part of the Win32 API.
