Is it just me or or does officiating seem worse now? Not just in football and baseball, but it seems like it is in all sports. After much consideration, I think it's the tv's and cameras we have now. When I was growing up, we had 18-24" tv's that were 480dpi and we had to have our younger siblings adjust the aluminium foil on the tv to watch the game through the "snow".
Now we have 72" 4k monsters that you can see the hair between the crack of the center's butt. Also there are now 12-15 cameras filming the game instead of 4-6. There's at least 4 camera angles on each play. Heck, there's even a robot calling balls and strikes in minor league baseball. A player was ejected for arguing a call against him.
I think officiating is pretty much the same over the years, maybe slightly worse. We just now are able to see it better .

Well, I think officiating has gotten better. You can't deny the technology is changing Sports. I remember getting so frustrated with some of the bad calls in all sports. The ball was over the line in tennis, the ball hit the ground in a football game or it was clearly a strike in baseball. Now everything is revieweble. I like the idea that officials don't have the final say. ;-)

Technology can be a lot more accurate for things like that. For instance, a computer could probably tell if a ball was out of bounds by fractions of a millimeter. A computer could probably even tell that a strand of fuzz on a tennis ball was sticking out just a little too far to make it out of bounds. :P

Possibly. It just seems we see more and we're able to see what they missed from three different angles.

There are a couple of umps, that seems to ignore this.

The only real sports left worth watching are Rugby and Hockey.

Texas A&M has intramural Rugby, not very interesting, though. I want to go to a hockey game, but the Dallas Stars are the closest to me. (about 3 1/2 hours away.) There are a couple of minor league teams in the Austin area. (about 2hours away)
Just may have to bite the bullet and take a weekend.

I don't know much about Rugby, and would probably substitute
Baseball for that, but agree completely on Hockey.

I'm a season-ticket holder for the minor league (SPHL) team here
    in town. :-)

I love minor league hockey, and you should indeed make that trip -

Just found out we have a junior league team here in Bryan--College Station. Ther're in the NA3HL(North American Tier 3). They are a feeder to the tier 2 Odessa Jackalopes. I think I'll hit a game Saturday night.
