Has anyone else here read Eric Hoffer's "The True Believer"? (1951, Harper and Row pub.)þ Synchronet þ [aceshigh.dyn.dhs.org] - Come fly our friendly skies!
As much as I am *personally* all for belief, there is a line between informed beliefs, whether "true" or "correct" or "outright looney" and fanatacism.
Often, what I'm seeing in my lurking is the latter. This is what tends to drive me nuts about evangelical churches - the refusal to refute, or even acknowledge, points of view that don't further the growth of the "one true faith".
I'm not going to point fingers here - but I highly recommend that anyone read this particular text before joining ANY holy or righteous cause, from Southern Baptist congregations to the Communist Party.
Anyhoo....
I identify with early Taoist, Buddhist, and Gnostic outlooks. Anyone care for a debate?
Surreality is just an illusion.
