    Oh dear! Don't these guys...

    http://www.digitalmars.com/d/

    ...know that the successor to the "C" programming language should be
    called "P" and not "D"?

    First came 'BCPL'. From 'BCPL', Ken Thompson developed 'B', deriving it's name from the first letter of 'BCPL'. When 'B' was enhanced, it was
    renamed to the *second* letter of 'BCPL', or 'C'. Obviously, subsequent development would produce the programming language 'P', and finally 'L'.

    I don't belive that that rationalization was ever verified... DMR said "After creating the type system, the associated syntax, and the compiler for the new language, I felt that it deserved a new name; NB seemed insufficiently distinctive. I decided to follow the single-letter style and called it C, leaving open the question whether the name represented a progression through the alphabet or through the letters in BCPL." http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/who/dmr/chist.html

    Still, D is a stupid name for a programming language. :-)

    Also, 'D' is ambiguous since 'C'++ == 'D'
