Let me preface this by stating how much I hate Microsoft products. Now that's out in the open, unfortunately, due to my geographical location, programming for Microsoft OS is basically the only potential I have for getting back into coding. My Microsoft live account has gone kaput, though, and the links for downloading ANY of the Express versions redirect now to 2013
Release Candidate. Anyway, I laid all of this out on a DOC Citadel BBS that I frequent a bit, but I'm gonna cut 'n paste that here so I can describe a little better without aggravating my carpal tunnel moar. Heh.

Does anybody know where I can get an untainted version of Visual Studio
Express
(the free version) without having to sign up for a Microsoft live account again? An .iso thrown up on a highly throttled torrent would be fine, so long as I can at least start the process of snagging it. I've got a copy of 2008 here, but that's not recent enough. I'd really LIKE 2012, but I'll settle for 2010. Links for ALL versions fucking redirect to 2013 Express Release Candidate and I'll trust a Microsoft Release candidate about the same time I pass a security clearance to work for the NSA or Secret Service.

Any help muchly appreciated, I need to get my C# portfolio populated. :| -=-=-=-=-

You should be able to do a web search and find a third party to download from... tons of sites profit from archiving free software (via advertising and whatnot).

Third party downloads, of course, do entail more risk than getting from the original site, but sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do.

I just performed a quick search, and on page one of Google, right after the various Microsoft results, was a link to Softpedia.com and Visual Studio Express 2012.

I stopped looking with that result... my next thought would be to look at various torrent sites such as Pirate Bay.

Derp, yeah, you're right; I'll check that out now that I've got security on my virtual machine that isn't phoning home. Heh. I did try pirate bay but didn't give any of the isos or archives that I turned up on there a shot primarily because of the amount of malware floating around on most of those torrents, at least when the content is executable.
God I've had a really derpy few days here. The stress in this

So I went to http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/eng/downloads Clicked on Visual Studio Express 2010 in the middle of the page, then expanded the line for Visual C++ 2010 Express, clicked on the Blue arrow button, and finally at the pop-up I clicked on, "Or, download the previous: Visual C++ 2010 Express."

I got a download window for the web installer, saved to my computer, ran and VSEC++ 2010 is installed on my Win7 system.

I imagine the C# version works the same way. I don't know why you'd download it from a torrent site, feds+viruses=pass. If ya gotta get it online, you should subscribe to a newsgroup service like meganews or something, get your files from there.

Eh, I eventually got to it. Part of the problem may have been that *surprise, surprise!* Internet Explorer (as part of the fresh VM I was working with) wasn't rendering the form elements or handling the scripting on their site correctly.
