• Problem Converting from windows

From Corey@VERT/TSGC to All on Friday, November 13, 2009 17:23:53
ok, I am trying to convert from windows to linux.
I am having big problems with the upper/lower case names.
my linux sbbs is trying to run like, /sbbs/EXEC/qnet-ftp.bin
I checked the exec dir and it shows lower case but the bbs is still trying to run javascripts like this. I checked everything I could think of to fix this. anyone have any ideas on where else to look?
I have looked thru scfg and every config file I can think off.

I haven't tried synchronet on linux yet, but I do know in Windows you can set environment variables to change where the bbs looks for executables...have you tried changing them? "export SBBSEXEC=/sbbs/exec/" should do it, if memory serves... might also want to do the same for SBBSCTRL and SBBSDATA while you're at it...

    did export all varibles.
put them in the system profile.
hmm, how do I open a port in ubuntu? I have to open all the ports sbbs uses now.

Actually, aren't *bin files, compiled baja files? And btw, did you run the make file in the exec directory?

Did you install a firewall on your Ubuntu system? If not, then the ports are already 'open', at least on the Ubuntu system...

Do you have a separate firewall system, perhaps on whatever you're using to connect to the internet?

see if you already have a telnet server binding to port 23.

    how?

It's been a while since I've been on linux, but if I remember correctly, check the directory /etc/rc5.d. You may have files named something like S##.telnetd and K##.telnetd, or something like that. Those are the scripts that start and stop the regular telnet server.
Of course, you should be able to telnet to localhost if you have a telnet
    server already running.

To see what programs are using what ports, one thing you can do is run the following command:

    sudo netstat -nlpt

Then check if there is a line in those results that has ":23" in the "Local Address" column; if so, you can see what program has it in the "PID/Program Name" column.

SCFG->System->Advanced Options. Change "../EXEC" to "../exec". Should do the same for the other directories too.

What's "jackalopez"? And is that the only error that comes up?
