I'm sure this has been answered many times before, but what's the best way to get the full charictar set working with a regular terminal?

Or if I should just use a separate application, what's the best/easiest to get to try?

There are vast acres of unspecified information here. :-)

Let's start with what OS you're running and build up from there.

As for a separate app, I like SyncTERM myself (http://www.syncterm.net) but I'm a teensy bit biased.

    It's working great, thanks!

BTW, I'm using ubuntu in the form of Linux Mint.

You may need to rephrase that? If you mean an international character set, th ere are several and they are not all mutually compatible. Using just the European languages, there are some problems between Dainish and some of the other Nordic languages.

Depending on your *NIX version, you may not have installed the other language files. Some default to just the english standard set on install (if you tell it to use english).

I believe Ubantu is one of the ones that doesnt automatically load a wide variety of international character sets by default. It supports them fine,
but you'll have to add them in.

I help beta test for them off and on...I like their model and philosophy.

Just a bit, but from what I saw it's justified :)
