• Xen SBBS template?

From Tinkertim@VERT to All on Tuesday, March 04, 2008 06:55:15
Greetings to all :) I was wondering if anyone had kickstarted or debootstrapped a minimal x86_32 distro with Synchronet (Linux) pre loaded? I'm asking only because I'm about to do it and don't want to duplicate the efforts of others.

My employer lets me do whatever I want across a pretty big Xen farm (within reason), so I'm going to grab 128 megs and enjoy working on a board again.

I'm one of the contributors to Jailtime ( http://jailtime.org ) where this will appear.

The idea beaing, boot the guest and welcome to SBBS. If it doesn't exist, I'll likely just debootstrap something small and pound it together.

    TIA

    Cheers,

I'd be interested in hearing about how that works out; I'm not using xen yet, just using Linux-Vserver,
but do plan to use Xen later...

I'm just haggling over which distro to use. I (personally) like Debian, or Debian based .. but a lot of people prefer rpm based flavors.

I'll likely do CentOS and Ubuntu, while working on packages for Debian (proper) which (should) work on anything using aptitude.

My hope is, if its simple and just an 'apt-get away' ... more people will rediscover a really neat hobby :)

    Cheers,

I'll likely do CentOS and Ubuntu,

I'm interested in both; CentOS I want to learn more about, & Ubuntu as an extension of what I know about Debian...

Well, for that; Synchronet just needs to be packaged for Debian...<g>

Sounds cool, been using VMware for several years now, and was thinking of doing something similar, I know there was a torrent with a vmware image that was capable, just hadn't tried it...

If Jame is getting .deb's together, I'll just install them over a minimal debootstraped Debian/Ubuntu template. That's handy for Xen (and others) or just trying it out in a convenient chroot :)
