Try the Blackjack that comes pretty much ready to go with sbbs. That one shouldn't give you any trouble and is an example of the basic setup.

You might also want to experiment with running native linux programs as
doors by using the "Intercept stdio" option in the setup.

    Hi Delbert.

I must admit i am a bit ashamed as it is not for running with Synch.

What i was after is either source code to compile or Linux binaries to test on another BBS package, hope it is okay to ask this on DoveNET.

    Cheers.

I just thought too after posting that last message.
Intercept stdio that is sucha cool feature. He must of somehow hooked a Linux Syscall to stdio. maybe write and redirected to the terminal. of course he would have had to hooked stdin too for input. but that is such a cool feature. anywho look forward to yuor reply from previous message.

    Cheers guys

I'm pretty sure the source is on the sbbs site for a couple. There
aren't many at this point for linux though.

I have Ambrosia running on my board and I think that it's from source.
You might check that one out to get some ideas.

Are you looking to port or write some new ones?

Yes, it is. I've played around with a few programs like tetradraw and
others, as doors. With that one I made some mods to the source to
restrict directory movement when you load or save files. The script it
runs from just creates a directory that is named as the users ID #, and
then moves there and runs the program. The users can draw and save and
come back later and work on the same pictures. I haven't setup the
networking aspect of it yet, but I think you could have multiple users
from different bbs's networked together on drawings.

Anyway, all sorts of things possible with that.

Have a look at the synchronet source code, and the source code for the
couple doors that are out there on linux for ideas. We could sure use
    more doors for linux!

Well writing some new ones is on my list somewhere but the current reasoning is to test how another bbs package works with doors and iron out any bugs.

Well yes we sure do need more doors for *nix and i will look into that one day i have just got my plate a bit full of stuff to do atm it would seem.

i think the first one i would write is just a basic scribble wall door to test it out and see how easy or hard it is.

Anywho i got a bit to go on with now including doors and looking at the sych source.

Thanks for your help again guys.

What version of Linux you running? I got Ambroshia version 4.0
running under Gentoo Linux. It seems to be a good solid door game.
People around here sure seem to enjoy it. And I plan on paying the fee to register it. Let me know if you have any problems. It seemed to be
    difficult to install at first.
All though I had a problem at first. After you download the door.
It should run from a command prompt after you run the install file. From console after you run the ./ambroshia file it should play. Then put it in
the /usr/bbs/sbbs dir. Follow the instructions for ./scfg
On Gentoo I had some missing libraries and I fixed it with:

    emerge -a sys-libs/lib-compt

    Version 1.4.1

Description: Compatibility C++ and libc6 libaries for programs new and
    old.

The door has ran perfect after that. Very fast too.
    I have about 10 players.

I have tackled the dosemu stuff a little bit.. not much luck there.

I can be reached on yahoo:CoCo_Kid594

Hopes this helps and Good Luck.

Also do i need to compile the libraries?

    Hi Steve,

I run Gentoo so I don't know how that compares to the system you're running but I had the same issue when I first installed Ambrosia.

The library that fixed it was lib-compat (if my memory isn't slipping) and on Gentoo it was as simple as "emerge lib-compat"

Where do i need to download these please as i can't seem to find what i need i need to install manually as there is no apt-get or anything installed on t test system.

Depends on the Linux distribution you're running.

Also do i need to compile the libraries?

This will also depend on the distribution. Most of them should have a
package available, the form that package is in and whether it requires a
    local compile will vary.

Try a google search using your distribution name and lib-compat. If you're still not getting anywhere include the distribution (Gentoo, Redhat, Debian, etc.) you're using. Odds are someone in here is either running it or has run it and can point you in the right direction.

    Regards,
    Rob

he gone for a week - work (I am sort-of watching his bbs computer)

No probs i have the issue resolved now anyway.

    have fun :)

    Thanks for your time.

    your welcome

Thanks for your help before it did come in handy.

I must apologise in advance becasue this is probably not going to be in the correct echo but i was wondering if any of you guys know of any ansi artists that might be interested in doing some work for me. I guess there are gettin fewer and fewer nowadays but its worth a try as i am not getting anywhere in other places i have looked/asked.

It seems they have all died. I've even looked up some from back in the
day by their sigs, with google and such (now not every single one mind
you), and the closest I got was one that would admit that they WERE an
ansi artist at one time... I'm not sure what's up with that, but if you
find any real, actually working ones, please let me know. I have a small artwork budget set aside for my bbs, but no one to hire. ;(

Hi all. Nice to meet you all.

Any of you guys know where i can get hold of some Linux BBS doors as i like to test one or two before i progress onto DOSEMU and DOS doors.

    Thanks in advance.

What version of Linux you running? I got Ambroshia version 4.0
running under Gentoo Linux. It seems to be a good solid door game. People around here sure seem to enjoy it. And I plan on paying the fee t register it. Let me know if you have any problems. It seemed to be difficult to install at first.
All though I had a problem at first. After you download the door.
It should run from a command prompt after you run the install file. From console after you run the ./ambroshia file it should play. Then put it i the /usr/bbs/sbbs dir. Follow the instructions for ./scfg
On Gentoo I had some missing libraries and I fixed it with:

    emerge -a sys-libs/lib-compt

    Version 1.4.1

Description: Compatibility C++ and libc6 libaries for programs new and old.

The door has ran perfect after that. Very fast too.
    I have about 10 players.

I have tackled the dosemu stuff a little bit.. not much luck there.

I can be reached on yahoo:CoCo_Kid594

Hopes this helps and Good Luck.

Hi i am running my BBS on Trustix Secure Linux which is based in part on Red i believe. It has grown on me a lot this distro.

Is Ambroshia 4 the latest ?

    Thanks for your help guys.

    Steve

Hi again. I have downloaded and installed ambrosia but having a few problems getting it to run. I know i need libc6 as the error msg is as follows. ./ambrosia: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file
    or directory
Where do i need to download these please as i can't seem to find what
i need as i need to install manually as there is no apt-get or anything installed on the test system.

Also do i need to compile the libraries?

Thanks again in advance for your help.

    Steve

Sorry I just noticed your mail today. I'm gone most of the week trucking.
See the above part of this message. On gentoo thats all I had to do to
fix it. I am not sure what you do on other *nix systems. That's the great thing about portage. I know you won't get it running. Till you get the correct lib files. Let me know.. I'll try and so some research on it.
Gentoo should tell me what lib files you need. I registred my version of Ambrosia. Kids seem to like it... some parts of it not too good for younger kids though. Let me know... if you need more help.

This has a Y2K bug that screws with the headers in the QWK packet. Please locate and install the work-around which is available on the net.

Will do thanks I remember that from way back. I din't notice any errors when I imported messages. I will not use it till I get and find the patch. I used to have it. It seemed to be displaying the date okay on mine. Didn't it used to make the year say 100 or something like that...

The bug doesn't affect packets read IN, but it fouls up the headers in
    packets it CREATES.

    You can try here:

    http://www.anjo.com/misc/bwrf065.zip

or search elsewhere on the net, if you prefer.

Didn't it used to make the year say 100 or something like that...

I believe the two-digit year overflows, so 2007 which should result in 07 being stored in the header, gets stored as 107 instead, which pushes all
the other fields along one byte. I'm not entirely certain about the
    details.
