• Using older computers to get online

    From Sam Alexander@VERT to DOVE-Net.Internet on Thursday, February 21, 2008 08:14:02
    Hey Guys ...

Just curious, I'm thinking of pulling my ol' Commodore Amiga 500 outta mothballs to see if I can get it on the Net. Anyone use one of these
systems or any other classic computer (15+ years old) to get online?

    Take care --

    Sam

Hi Sam. I do with several old 8-bit machines. But purests would say I cheat. I don't actually run a TCP/IP stack on them. Rather I dial-up (or use a serial line) a *nix box with a comms program that does vt100 emulation. I can then surf the web with Lynx. If I want to download I transfer the file to the host and then copy to the old computer with zmodem or xmodem.

Of course, with an Amiga you'll no doubt be looking for a graphical solution. Have you checked out Aminet? ( http://aminet.net/comm/tcp )

    Regards,
    Doug

I'm prepared to upgrade a machine after 15 *minutes* if more modern
hardware comes my way. WTF am I going to ponce about with a 15 year old
    Amiga for?

You're confusing Timer Warrior with TimeLord.

Time Warrior said Time Warrior can't code, not "us guys". Are you just making this stuff up off the top of your head?

    Oh yeah. Woops.
There's time warrior, time lord, timewarpofthefuture
W8zzu BlaZZZe Jas hud Jason this Jason that and sometimes no
I have no idea if the person I'm flaming was the person who replied to me.
It is my way of dealing with being riled up and conveying it back to them.

"you guys" I meant more than one person stepped in, and insulted the guy when he announced he wished to work on and play with Newslink, and wanted to familiarize himself with Java(script lol).

In fact he was told to post on his local message bases only from now on.
From a fuckin faggot who hasn't coded something worthwhile since 1996, obsolete by now or translated beautifully into default javascript. Timelord doesn't know MrObv2VisionXcelerity is a fuggin dick. Timelord began the programming venture, thinking I was a programmer too, or something. I still don't know.

I just knew right away he had an issue or talent to bring up among public postings, and discouraged and ridiculed for it. First post. Because he didn't spell everything right or do the secret model airplane hobby handshake first.

I saw 12 moves ahead like a chess game what was gonna happen so fuck that I told him to go for it, and what do you know! He came through! I don't think he was trying to replace your newslink, he was trying to help and show off at the same time *cough* like a couple others here. He found some bendy or non-RFC news servers out there and they're big news servers, and so on. Well yay you're now alot more worldly compatible, as is the goal.

We cheer that, and get made fun of constantly.
It's umm. Not cool? friendly? what word am I looking for here..
excessive, and rule breaking, and quite tit for tat.
I promise to shut up and just watch people code. Can you promise to make me and others stop bitching? It is my strong opinion that it's not long before I am another Timelord and want to get into the gritty like him.

That's the kinda guys I look up to not this other shit
