• Some Sanity!

From Finnigann@VERT/BNB to Ralph Smole on Sunday, July 15, 2007 09:08:00

Thanks to all the pressure put on Congress, they finally took action
and leaned on SoundExchange. They have stated to Congress that they
will not enforce the CRB rates come July 15th and it's buisness as
usual for webcasters until a fresh round of negotiations establishes
    new rates.

All of this happened because you persevered with phone calls and
emails to Congress. So THANK YOU to all my friends here who gave

'Bout damn time the government kept their ever pervasive nose out of at leas ONE aspect of our lives!! Rat bastards!

And if you were in the radio business trying to make a living SELLING
    radio ad time...?

I agree with Jazz, that internet radio should be free if the source
wishes it. Just like PBS is often commercial free or more commercial
venues put on the occasional FREE (from ads) concerts or other public
    minded programming.

It's just not so cut and dried as all that.

Every government job saved was someones income. <shrug> The question
is, did we need someone doing that job. Or do we need control on the
    internet?

Anyway, I doubt this is over.

I'm not sure what point you're making. Wanna clarify?

    If I can...

It's fairly obvious. It's what's implied with the Win/Win scenarios
    everyone seeks.

Two sides to every issue. Someone's gotta win and someones gotta lose.
Or Someone's gotta pay and someone collects.

And every once-in-a-while both sides think they have won.

Jazz wants free radio content on the internet. Ralph thinks the
government should keep their collective noses out of ... well
    everything.

BUT would Ralph be so sure if he were selling time on the radio
    for advertising?

In that case, FREE content would be the bain of the ad-seller, wouldn't
    it?

NOW, since you are AT LEAST as smart as I am, why couldn't you fill in
all of this on your own?

Well I still don't know what your stance is, but here's my initial
    thoughts on the matter:

It is not the government's business to craft legislation to save the Slide Rule manufacturers from the sale of electronic calculators.

NOW, since you are AT LEAST as smart as I am, why couldn't you fill in
all of this on your own?

Because even after this most recent posting, you still have not clarified
what your stance is. Are you *FOR* government intervention against
internet radio content providers to the benefit of broadcast providers?
    Or the opposite?

The role of government in this is incidental (to my point) it can be a
company wanting to shed some expenses for that matter.

One persons 'expenses' are someone elses income. That's all I was
    trying to say.

If Ralph was personally involved with the outcome of such a decision,
    would he feel the same?
