How about that? Is the global network called the Internet overrated? We have
so nice BBS service in this country, is not that enough?

Singing: "Internet killed the BBS Star" :)

Honestly I see the pro's and con's to both BBSes and the Internet, and if I hadn't have grown-up on BBSing I probably would be an Internet junkie like most brats today. There is a certain kind of nostalgia which keeps me
coming back, but what we had on the local BBSes can never be duplicated on
a global level -- mainly the local element.

The interent is somewhat overrated. Its become like TV or the TV is now like the internet. Before the internet wasn't one add after another clogging up the minds of millions with suggestions for stuff they don't need. And the image contant of the intenet is so vast the search tools today based on text, are moving to slow for the image content of the net. Image search tools need to be developed. Like you draw in a search field and the search tool returns what you are looking for. Of course you can put in colors or whatever. Shopping is great but the net wasn't geared for shopping, but that is what it is. When I was 1st on the intenet there wasn't all the adds like today. Only have to wait until like 2030 for the big change accordning to the author of the book of AI.

I agree 100%. You might enjoy reading a couple of Cliff Stoll's books on this, _Silicon Snake Oil_ or _High-Tech Heretic_. Both talk about
computers in everyday life and how they shouldn't be replacements for like reading a book or writing a letter (on paper, not email). The books are
old (written in 1996 and 2000), but they're still on the mark IMO.

Personally I do use the Internet for shopping, research, and talking to
friend across the globe. However I still enjoy the evenings when I just
turn on the radio and read a good book, plus I subscribe to several
magazines which I really look forward to. The Internet has good for some things, but it's not a replacement for everything.

My wife and I are expecting our first child, and though we know the
Internet will be a part of her life, we don't want it or television to have any part in her upbringing. She will learn how to use computers as a hobby
if she wants to, and we will have programs for her to watch (no
commercials), but never use either as a 'baby sitter' if we can help it.
Both my wife and I grew-up in areas with no cable TV (only 4 channels), and
we both are avid readers and lovers of nature and the world around us. We hope to bring our daughter up in a smiliar environment, and let her make
her own choices without influence from media or commercialism.

    Sam
