    Hello,

What do you think about Internet Explorer 7.0?

What other browsers do you use and like?

I still like Internet Explorer 6.x but have tried 7.0 and is ok.

Back in the day I used Netscape, and tried Opera, firefox but always seems to go back to IE.

Does it have a classic mode? I've seen it on other PCs,
but I haven't put it on my own because it didn't seem
to have a classic mode. :o

On my 2 Xp machines, I run classic with no themes.
I need to save the bells & whistles for the games I

What is the difference.. IE 6 and 7 and 5 for that matter all show webpages the same to me.. I guess they all have whiz bang upgrades for something. If you are just looking at basic web pages, I think they are all the same. I use firefox from time to time but it fruits out on my notebook.

IE5-6 full of security holes, that would allow me to *OWN* your machine from you visiting a webpage with them...

IE7, quite a bit better, but limiteed to XP and Vista.. for all other versions of windows, do yourself a favor, and grab an updated copy of firefox.

Odds are if it will only allow IE, then it only works correctly in IE...
Which sucks, but is true of few websites... I would try the plugin for FF to mask the browser agent string, but it may still not work right...

About the only IE feature that I would love to see in other browsers is CSS expression syntax (if JS is enabled)... though it adds yet a whole other area where security needs to be checked, as well as input validation..

Actually, I think the idea is sort of nasty. What I'd like to see id server-side CSS scripting. You can do it by adding a handler for .css
files to Apache, but there isn't any legitimate syntax. So you can code
your server-side dynamic CSS is perl, PHP or whatever. I'd like to see
    some standardization in that area.

Well, if you have scripting, and ActiveX controls dissabled in IE, you are relatively safe... Also, you honestly wouldn't likely notice, after all there are like 1.2 million zombie windows computers out there (by current, as of this month estimates), with users that don't seem to notice. Even CERT suggests not using IE.

Honestly, if you keep up on windows updates, keep an up to day antivirus, and don't open attachments from people you don't know, you are relatively safe since the melissa/i-love-u days... IE's security context is seriously flawed to be honest... it makes things excessively difficult to fully secure. IE7 corrects many of these flaws, and a good majority of those fixes aren't being backported to IE6, in fact a lot of IE6 flaws that have been fixed on XP haven't been backported to work on anything prior to XP..

Using IE5 or 6 is pretty much asking to be a spam bot.

Well, generally I keep a main css file for the site, then have browser, and version specific fixes...

    site.css
    site.browser.css
    site.browser.#.css
    site.browser.#.#.css
    page.css
    page.browser.css
    page.browser.#.css
    page.browser.#.#.css

The masterpage/base page will detect which css files apply, and are available on the filesystem, and create the link tags in the header... this way I can concentrate on the site.css and page.css then, when needed I can have specific tweaks/overrides in a separate stylesheet. I've had to work on a couple sites that have required site.IE.7.0.css (I added the version major/minor checking because of ie7.0 which has some flaws that come up in some cases, which will probably be fixed in IE.7.01) it's kind of a bitch.. each vX.0 version of IE has a few bugs that make it through testing, and only happen under some semi-rare circumstances... IE5.0 was probably the worst offender, but is almost understandable because a lot of the W3C DOM support was added in that tree...

I really liked where IE4.x was over Netscape 4.x, but since Firefox(bird), and Opera 7+, IE has been my least fav.
