Yeah, makes me grind my teeth sometimes at how ignorant people are. Generally, people just aren't interested in educating themselves.
People are amazed when they visit my home and see my network. They act like it's all magic: "I'm not very good at that stuff, I could *NEVER* do that!"
I started including my BBS as a hobby on applications and resumes. I was at our local workforce center when they had a resume building class. I figured, what the heck, been a long time since high school, maybe I'll learn something. Not really, of course, but the instructor insisted on checking out all of our resumes. I was amused at how wowed she was at my 5 min. resume, and she asked about the BBS. I'm like, "watch this", and grabbed her keyboard, got connected in 2 seconds, and smiled when her eyes got real wide. I explained how in this one software we have all these services, available right off my little itty bitty netbook at home, and got the "look", like it's all magic guru cow powers or something...lol

I know this thread is a year old, but I have to contribute just to say, that is so familiar!Awesome!
I live in Tasmania, which is kind of the backwater uh.. New Jersey.. Montana.. Tennessee? of Australia. All homophobic, xenophobic hicks
down here. Anyway, as a result, the most common 0_0 eyes I get are just from typing in public.
'OMG, how do you type that fast? :O'
'Well, I was a geek in school.'

Does it bug anyone else when people equate the words "internet" and "web"? I've seen many computer setups with a link to the web browser that just
says
"Internet". Also, there was a time when a friend of mine told me he used "internet-based email" - I was confused, thinking all email these days is internet-based, and it took me a moment to realize he probably meant "web-based email". Before I realized that, I said, "Isn't all email internet-based?" and he thought I was just being a smart-ass.
Many people don't seem to realize that the web is just one thing available on
the internet.
