• Accessing Web server...

From IB JOE@VERT/JOESBBS to All on Monday, July 06, 2020 07:16:00
I know there is an answer, problem is I'm not the most technically
bright. Having said that.... I've had different internet providers over
the years. And as a result I have had different different hardware,
    modems and rounters, over time.

There have been times I could access the BBS web server from the local
network using the bbs name ... joesbbs.com ... and then there are
times, though hardware changes, I cannot and I have to resort to using
    the local address... 192.188.?.?

I have added SSL certificates to my web server lately and now can't
access board because my certificates are based on the the bbs site name
    and not the local address.

    Thanx in advance

    Joe

Which operating system are you using in your client machine?

If linux, you can edit your /etc/hosts file and add an entry like:

    192.168.?.? joesbbs.com

That way, your computer will know 129.168.?.? IS joesbbs.com. You will be able to browse your server by using the
    https://joesbbs.com URL from the LAN.

Interesting.... Ummmm... I'm not a linux user, I have a Pi but.... Linux
seems to kick my ass on the simple things... nice work around. I may do
this on my pi so that I can test my web site from time to time...

    Thanx
