complete picture on this. They're building AI to model YOU and your behaviors to predict what yuo're going to do next. They can even model
your moods at the moment it's occuring too. It's creepy.

I wouldn't call it AI. It's more like comparing similarities from a vast history of your collected data and then making suggestions - ver very
fast. There's no "intelligence" in it, just fast cross-checking and
    matching.

..Youtube gives you recommdnations on the side. It's really really
good at it. People I know spend hours watching recommended videos they
had zero intention of watching before going. Before they know it, the
day is over and their projects fell to the wayside. The analytics and
AI have used the human brain and turned it against itself.

Spotify does something similar when it suggests playlists based on your listening habits. It's more like having a friend mention "since you
enjoyed so-and-so, you may like this other artist" It's a rather nice way
to discover new music in a favorite genre. But that one doesn't feel so intrusive. Spotify's suggestions only appear on the "Home" page. The rest
of the time when you are viewing an album and doing your own research, you never see the auto-suggestions. And.. as far as I can tell, I don't
witness any leaks to the web based on my spotify activity. Spotify seems
to operate within its own environment.

It's tough to visit a news site these days without a linked youtube
video that, more often than not, autoplays when you load a page. It
takes an act of hacking to stop the autoplay.

I don't hang around those for very long. The New York Times videos behave that way. They also autoplay little embedded videos in the margins.
Totally annoying. If I am on my laptop, I have a mechnical switch that I
can use to disable the wi-fi connection long enough to read the main
    article, and close it.

...they'll often require the video to play to describe the information
the clickbait drew you there for. Of course, you can't forget the advertisement that starts. Want to see a 30 second vid? Watch this 25 second ad first please, kthxbye.

I don't hang around sites like that. Total crap.

I really hate what the web has turned into.

Sadly, the younger generations don't care. They are growing up with the
stuff we call crap and are inculcated to it as a normal experience.

    Long live Lynx.

But, sadly.. only until the last one standing in our generation lives. :)
