I have an idea of which could be used to build a federated public board like system.

Each user runs an HTTP server. On the server he stores all his posts that he has made.

He can get posts from friends by peering with them; and vice-verse.

All done quickly and easily with HTTP.

You can do this with Synchronet:

1. Setup Synchronet with a web interface.

2. Setup web_feed_importer.js which ports your Message board to RSS.

3. Go to http://feed.mikle.com/ and setup your RSS feed widgit which converts
your RSS to a scrolling javascript web applet.

Someone could probably develop a javascript snippit to do this with Synchronet so we can do this without using the RSS feed widgit in step 3. This would make it possible to network blog posts from system to system in Synchronet which is "super awesome :)" and I'm experimenting with right now.

You can see the example at www.asirta.com along with the support page. I use it to port reddit feeds and other RSS feeds to my message bases/web front end as well.

Its called Synchronet.. Already has that for HTTP... Even a Telnet Port via HTTP and the ability to create account, login and see the forums.

yeah but he is talking about users, not sysops. i dont think users should have to run a server on the internet and be subjected to more attacks then they usually are just for whatever idea he has. and i think it's a poorly thought out idea.
