I used to have ICQ, until they went through and deleted tons of
accounts, mine included, for no reason. Screw them, I don't need it.

I kept mine around and log in every once in a while -- it's a relatively short ID number. I remember some people with 6 digit ICQ IDs.

I lost my ID a long time ago. I had a 6 digit in the nineties in the
100k range... I'd dumped ICQ when Yahoo first got popular, then got
nostalgic and wanted to look up some old friends. Couldn't remember
my ICQ number and password, and my old nether.net email address had
vanished with the shell provider. :(

I started using ICQ around 1998, and I really liked it. I thought it had a great search feature to let you find people to chat with (in a particular age range, in a particular location, etc.). ICQ had some pretty cool features that differentiated it from other chat programs. Unfortunately, over the years, ICQ got rid of so many of those cool features that now it's nothing special - it's just another instant messenger. Most of the people I used to talk to on ICQ no longer came online, and most of the people I know use other messengers, so I haven't seriously used ICQ since around 2005 or so.
