Anyone else flying RC Helicopters ??

    I have a 2005 XCell Spectra-G with a TRM 23 Gasser engine.

Radio is the new Futaba 14MZ Heli.

I do some aerial video with it using a Pro 60 Camera Mount.

I have one (an electric "Honey Bee"), but haven't flown it much. Since I just cracked-up another receiver in my Zagi 400-X, I'll try to fly the Heli again soon. :-)

Yes, Eliza has asked me a dozen times since if we can fly the plane again. <sigh>

Were you flying under power? Or gliding it like you said you would try?

I was gliding in for a landing and misjudged how far away the plane was. I had several mishaps on Sunday (hitting the side of the house in one), one near-perfect landing, but the plane is in decent shape considering. I just need another RX. :-)

And where is the receiver in the 'pod'?

Pond you mean? <shrug> Oh, maybe you mean the canopy?

The receiver was inside the canopy nearest the nose, so of course, it receives the brunt of the force from the battery pack (like a ram) when I nose it into a wall or the ground. This is the 3rd RX I've destroyed in the Zagi. <grins> Next time, I'm gonna bore out a hole inside the wing like the manual suggests,
since keeping up in the canopy obviously isn't safe. Or I could wrap it in foam or bubble-wrap. :-)

I thought you'd said the motor/esc were U/S due to the bath they had a
    while back.

And where is the receiver in the 'pod'?

The receiver was inside the canopy nearest the nose, so of course, it receiv the brunt of the force from the battery pack (like a ram) when I nose it int wall or the ground. This is the 3rd RX I've destroyed in the Zagi.

I'm not surprised! I destroyed one Rx that very way, but the guy I buy my Rx's from suggested moving it to avoid the same issue of battery-pack
    becomes battering-ram!

<grins> Next time, I'm gonna bore out a hole inside the wing like the manual suggests, since keeping up in the canopy obviously isn't safe.
Or I could wrap it in foam or bubble-wrap. :-)

    Here's my 400-X with the canopy/pod open:

    http://www.anjo.com/misc/z400x-rx.jpg

Motor/prop are on the left, and the black KR-1700AE battery-pack is to the right, with some strips of red Zagi-tape stuck top it to make it easier to find after an 'abrupt' landing. The white cube is my Rx. It is inside a block of EPP foam that I cut from the packaging for a monitor, and
hollowed out. After the Rx was put in with a tiny window so I could plug
in the servos, I wrapped it up in white masking tape. The esc goes over
the top to connect the motor to the back. They warn you not to put the Rx close to the motor, but I have no trouble with noise. When you smack into something, the battery goes forward/right, *away* from the Rx.

What you may not be able to see clearly, running along the far side of the
pod and partially obscured here and there, is a white cord I made from
several lengths of dental floss, and is connected between the motor-mount
and the esc-end of the esc/pack connector. It has some slack in it, so
when you smack something, the pack gets going away forward when that cord suddenly snaps taught, and yanks the connector open. The idea is so the
full weight of the pack doesn't yank on the leads to the esc possibly
damaging it. You 8do* have to look for the pack separately (hence the red Zagi-tape) but it seemed like a good idea at the time and has given me no trouble since the first Rx-smashing event.

I didn't really think of putting the RX *behind* the battery. Looks like it works fine that way.

Any landing that you only have to bend over once to pick up the model is a successful landing!

Whoops! Anyway, you look like you had some fun. I'd strongly recommend shifting the Rx. Don't just bury it in the foam ahead of the battery,
because the battery will eventually pound the foam to chips and get theb
Rx anyway. Believe me, I know. Either hollow out a nest to one side, in
one wing, or put it behind the battery (which works great for me).

    Good luck! :-)

It was. I really needed to practice landing the most, so I'd get her up high and then just glide in circles trying to land in the yard, but too often hit other things (like the house) instead.

It's amazing how tough that thing is. I had some hard landings in dirt/rock/stucco and she kept launching and flying until the RX broke.
