Still a virgin...

I ran a full break-in today, consisting of 40 minutes (one tank!) at about 4,000 RPM as read by my tach.. Before starting, I took the tappet pans
off and put six drops of castor oil down each of the the pushrod tubes.
This to ensure good lubrication for the first few revolutions of the new engine, before the standard lubrication system kicked in.
The throttle linkage is over sensitive, with one click on the throttle
ratchet good for quite a large jump in RPM. Also end-points need to be properly set. I will probably have to change the servo arm to a shorter
one, and *then* set the end-points.
Took the model up to the field, but it was very windy. With a tried and
true aircraft it would have been tricky, but flyable. However, with an unknown quantity, particularly one with known flaws in construction
(banana fuselage) you really should try to give it the best chance of
success. We waited for the wind to fall off as night approached, even if
it meant that the first flight would be in light too poor to get a good
photo. But as twilight set in, the wind was still blowing hard. So we shelved it for another day.
The Saito ran pretty well on the ground, though, despite some comments I
keep hearing from certain quarters, about the reliability of inverted
engines.
