Two more flights

Had a couple more flights yesterday afternoon, and hope for a couple more *this* afternoon.
Improving. I corrected a bit of negative reflex on the ailerons, tweaked
the elevtor, and fiddled with the engine a bit, and it went /better/ but
not yet 100%. Still having engine problems. It has been suggested that I should try an idle-bar plug since the engine is in a semi-inverted configuration.
I'm getting better at controlling her, but still nowhere near as precise
as I need to be. My turns are always wider than I thought they were going
to be, ehich puts me off my intended line. But again, I'm improving.
I tried the flaperons. Immediate reaction was a nose-down pitching
motion. I added 15% elevator correction on flap selection which seemed to cure that problem, but highlighted a tendancy to roll right when the flaps
are activated. Since the two ailerons are independantly adjustable for
droop when flaps are activated, I will need to tweak their throws.
She is still fast, and she is a bit scary. You make a pass, pull the
elevator back into about a 70 degree climb and open the throttle
and she goes up at a rate, until you can barely see her! She's very
clean, and approaches are swift. You grip the tranny as she greases in
over the strip, wishing you had an extra quarter mile of grass for the roll-out and clench your teeth so as not to chicken out and do something stupid, instead of waiting for her to settle.
One problem I'm having is fuelling and defuelling. I'm working on a mod
to utilize a fuelling valve I have here. I hope that works out OK. The
cowl had to come off again :-( and that means re-tweaking the jet when it
all gets back together again.
In the mean time I had 7-amp starter & fuel pump battery overheat, bulge, crack and generally self-destruct. Thankfully, I called Jim, who replaces batteries in UPS systems for a living.....
