I received an astrological telescope for my birthday this year, not a super duper one, but definately a nice starter.

I've gotten over the initial "you gotta be kidding me" of how difficult it actually was to sight in the moon (well, at least until you read directions
... and properly align the sighting scope :>) and now the brightest object in the night sky is an easy target.

I was wondering if anyone else was playing peeping tom with ET?

I was wondering if anyone else was playing peeping tom with ET?

    Years ago a friend bought a 2nd-hand 8" reflector with motor-drive. It
was pre-conputerization, and used synchronous motors and cogs and other mysterious stuff like that. We could never get it to run properly, and it
was a bitch keeping anything in view for more than a second or two. (Who
    knew things moved so fast?!)

It came with a special piece of tin-foil that you put over the, uh, big
end, to view the sun. Worked great. He even bought an Olympus camera and took some great photos of the sun, moon, and even s couple of the ringed planets.

That was a looong time ago. I wonder what ever became of the thing?

I think the key words there were with ET... so unless your neighbor is brown with a big neck and a glowing finger ... and some kids in a bike are trying
to get her back to her ship ...

That was one of the big suprises here as well, of course it all makes perfect sence, but who thinks about these things ahead of time :) I managed to get a star in sight but by the time I had the focus adjusted, whiz ...

Very neat. I think this is where I am heading as well. A lot of it is over
my head at the moment but like anything you learn by doing. I haven't been able to pick out any of the other planets yet, but with the weather lately
it's occasionally hard to pick out streetlights :> Very hazy here in
Southern Ontario at the moment, and mucho light contamination but you still
    get some :)
