I thought I might get a flight this evening. I should have counted on the streak of bad luck that runs in my family!
I finished the corrective work on the wing and checked the alignment (perfect!) then, last night late, I was mixing epoxy and mucking about by candle-light getting the belly-pan fastened to the wing. This so it could cure overnight and be flight-ready this morning. With only the cowl to
cut and then trim'n'tune, I thought I might get in the air this afternoon!
Before cutting the cowl, I decided to do a rough balance of the model, in
case the engine would have to be shifted on the mount, to assist with
getting the C-of-G right. No sense cutting the cowl for the engine, and
then discover you have to move the engine!
So I went to bolt it all together (minus cowl) and the $&)@*!# muffler
doesn't fit!
I had already seen that the Tower muffler on the Thunder Tiger motor
doesn't fit, and I'd scrounged around and borrowed a muffler from a Super Tiger. "Yes, this muffler will fit onto the TT motor, once you ream out
the flange on the TT!" was what I was told, but when I went to try it,
that proved to be untrue. So after making a wooden spacer to test the
fit, I have discovered that I need a 1/2" spacer from Tower. I've ordered
it, but now I have to wait for it to arrive.....
I even went and dug out a Saito 56 4-stroke, but no, it is too long, and
the throttle linkage is incorrect. So, all I can do now is wait.
