A short while ago I took up Alchemy for the same reason. Once I hit level 50 I lost interest. :-)

i tried being a blacksmith but it was taking too long and costing me a lot of gold to get mats and blueprints. so i switched to engineering and boosted to 100. now i can make blingtron and goblin hang gliders.

I was a level 16 Pastamancer in Kingom of Loathing (http://www.kingdomofloathing.com) but had already done all of the cool quests.
