• Move Andriod Apps Automatically?

From Jagossel@VERT/MTLGEEK to All on Tuesday, June 05, 2018 21:51:44
All right, I'm getting really annoyed with something about Android: moving apps to the SD card.

I've been noticing when an app has been moved to the SD card, gets updated, it gets put back onto the internal storage. This eats space up fast, and it's bad enough that most of the apps CANNOT be moved to the SD card.

What I've been doing is looking at the list of recently updated apps and moving those apps back onto the SD card where possible. This gets old after a while, and I keep forgetting to do it.

I suppose what's happening is that it might be doing a form of unistall/re-install in such a way that you don't loose your app's data.

Is there some app with some background service to either move the app to the SD card after installation/upgrade where possible or to go through all of the apps, determine if it can be moved to the SD card, and if so then move the app?

I think the Android OS was supposed to let you move the app to the SD card if it can be moved. If you can't move it, then there may be something about the app where it needs to be on internal storage (i.e., if it loads something when you start your phone so it has to be there).

i dont think they allow that anymore. i used to be able to do it with earlier versions.

i think what they want you to do instead is use a large SD card and format it and tell the OS to use it as the default system drive.

That bugs me, too. Audible and my podcast app take up a ton of space, and although I can tell it to store data on the card, the apps take up space.

Pocket and Reddit are huge, too.

I'm tempted to set up my S3 to combine internal storage and my SDcard, see if it's as slow as they say.

I get that, and I apologize if that wasn't clear in my initial message. The point was to see if there is an app that will do it automatically or do it in a batch.

Yeah, I don't recall seeing the feature to move apps to the SD card for a while. My older LG phone had that feature, but lately I've been using Samsung Galaxy phones and haven't seen that feature.

Yeah, I understood.. Was just saying if you can't find an app, the OS should at least be able to do it, at least one at a time.

Doing it one at a time is the annoying part that I'm trying to save myself from the aggervation of it.

I did remember an app I've used years ago on my, then, rooted Andriod phone: Titanium Backup. I've used it then to get rid of the crapware LG used to provide and to update apps on the ROM to buy myself space on that phone. Might be worth looking into again and check their features to see if they have what I need.
