I am having trouble receiving email on my system.
I have my domain setup in Enom and configured in google mail.
I can send but not receive. Google said that I need to issue a TLS command first. So, how do I do that in Windows 10?
Or, in Ubuntu Linux. I can use either.

Confirm your port 25 isn't blocked by your ISP. Mine is, its Comcastic!

1) Do you have a Router? If so make sure you have all your ports open and forwarding to the correct IP within the LAN. Example make sure port 25 and 110 are forwarding to the system that is running SBBS.

2) Port 25 is SMTP not POP3. SMTP is used for Sending Mail Out while Port 110 is POP3 for Reciving Mail. Make sure there isn't a IMAP colision in your setting that is affecting POP3.

I don't follow. When your system *receives* email, another SMTP server must make a connection to your SMTP server (almost always on port 25). This is, by definition, an unauthenticated connection (the connecting SMTP server does not have any creditials on the receiving SMTP server to authenticate with). No, Synchronet doesn't support the STARTTLS verb, nor do I see how that fact has anything to do with your problems *receiving* email.

Now, when *sending* email (e.g. from a mail client, like Windows Mail, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc.), the SMTP *client* in this case makes a connection to your server to SUBMIT the email and that connection (on any TCP port, but typically 25 or 587) must be authenticated (the sending client must have a username/password on the sending SMTP server) and *that* connection could, in theory, be encrypted as well (e.g. USING STARTTLS), but that's not what you said you're having a problem with. So, I'm confused. :-)

Well that command does not exist in Synchronet. That doesn't mean you can't receive mail, but with your description of your setup, I don't really know what to tell you to do. Perhaps just having someone else act as your mail exchange (MX) would do the trick.

Sounds like a DNS record issue to me (MX record to be exact). In order to RECEIVE email on your BBS, your domain's MX record needs to point to your
BBS' IP address where the SMTP service is running.

If you're using google apps for your domain, then the BBS won't be receiving inbound email... you can use a sub-domain bbs.yourdomain.com and set the BBS
to be the mx for bbs.yourdomain.com ... Google apps doesn't relay mail to
your BBS server.

As to sending out, as DM mentioned SBBS doesn't support TLS for email. I've setup my board to relay out through https://sendgrid.com/ (It's $10/month or so), so that my newuser email goes through... I'm planning on disabling
netmail for all users though, because I really only want inbound mail, and
the only outbound to be for new user validation. YMMV.
