Have you guys tried ConnectBot for Android? If setup properly, it displays
ANSI perfectly. I run it on my Nexus tablet so I can admin my board while I'm away. And it's free.

I've used ConnectBot, but it wasn't rendering ANSI correctly at the time.
I'll have to look into it more to see how to get ANSI working properly with
    it.

Try setting your connections to use CP437 encoding. That made all the difference for me.

Several years ago, when I had an iPod Touch, I found a client app for iOS (called
iSSH) which has great BBS-compatible ANSI emulation, and I used it to connect to
my BBS a few times. It worked fairly well, but due to the small screen size and
touch keyboard overlay, I didn't connect to my BBS that way very often. I would
only want to connect via cell phone in a pinch, and even that is fairly rare. Maybe if I was out and about and bored while waiting for something and really wanted to check messages on my BBS - but for messages, I think the web interface
works better than a telnet interface on a cell phone.

When I am overseas, I sometimes connect to my BBS via the mobile data network. Usually on WIFI.. Still, some of us like to connect via phone ocassionally.

it's not the ansi support most of the time. it's the poor codepage support.

Out of curiousity... are you mainly wanting to access messages, or do you do anything like doors, or want to when you are remote on a phone? Been giving some thought on how to parse messages, specifically threading (> based) and line wrapping to present a better ui, mainly so phones are nicer... Just curious how usable it would be. Also, asuming you are a sysop, how important is it to have your message bases accessible via google/bing?

Unfortunately CP437 just isn't well supported these days... it isn't even an option in the Encoding Living Standard API. Somewhat surprising it is supported in npm's codepage package.

Just to read messages. No, I do not do doors or anything really. My BBS at casper.homeip.net is basically only setup to get Dove-Net mail and has hardly any files, no doors except what came with Synchronet at install.
