From Raven@VERT to All on Thursday, January 22, 2015 06:25:53
    Hi all,

I am the sysop of mickybay.com bbs
sadly the house was struck by lightning last night and has blown quite alot of our electrics including the PC with the BBS on.

The hard drive with all the files on is ok but most of the pc is done.

I have a Raspberry Pi & the newer Banana Pi lying about.
Will these little ARM units work with the SBBS software?

Is there a image I can use to setup the BBS again?
I dont know Linux and have only ever used the desktop version of the raspberry pi software

Can anyone give me some advice

    Manny thanks

    Raven.

There are multiple folks that have successfully built and run Synchronet on pi's and like devices.

Is there a image I can use to setup the BBS again?

    Start here: http://wiki.synchro.net/install:nix

I dont know Linux and have only ever used the desktop version of the raspberry pi software

Then you might have some struggles at first, but if you stick with it, you'll get it and learn some valuable skills in the process.

What DM said. Anything could cannot figure out how to do in Linux is just a Google search away. I guarantee you're never more than one minute away from executing a command that will do anything you can imagine.

The biggest problem I had was learning the file system, permissions etc. It's very different from Windows, but it comes with time. Persist and it won't be long before you're wondering why you ever ran SBBS under Windows!
