• Telemate 4.20 registration

From ZeoNet@VERT/ECBBS to All on Thursday, December 04, 2014 14:15:47
I just got a copy of Telemate 4.20 running under DOSbox, and I'm wondering how I'm supposed to register it. I can probably find some old registration info online, but I can't tell where I'm supposed to enter it. Do I just wait until the evaluation period expires?

I tried the keyfile - didn't work (probably because it was for 4.11, and I have 4.20). I looked up the TM.exe command line options, and it turns out that in order to enter your reg key, you have to run 'tm.exe /REGISTER'. So now my copy is registered to Batman.

This is my first time using it (or any DOS terminal program, for that matter - this was long before my time). I'm a full-time *nix user, so using terminal applications directly under Linux keeps me from seeing ANSI art and IBM characters - now that I can actually see it all, I never want to go back.

Well, I wish I could say I could answer your question, but I'm afraid that I can't. What I did want to chime in and say, though, was that that comm package kicked _ass_. At first I was running it on an 8088, so the massive scripts that I made couldn't keep up with the throughput sometimes, but when I upgraded, god I loved the capabilities of that program. Not to mention the fact that it supported multithreading in a DOS environment. That was beautiful, so long as you didn't shell out.

Back then, everything was text-based. I could use the Telemate text editor to write something while downloading. Qedit had a TSR version and I had an old version of Sidekick resident, so I could keep busy.

To register Telemate, at the DOS box, type "TM /r" and this should bring up a request for your rego info.

God you guys are terrible. I'm so tempted to try to work a little bit harder on getting dosbox or dosemu working on this OpenBSD system now.
Maybe, just maybe, I could get it working along with one of those
telnet/dialer emulation pieces of software and REALLY relive the glory
days. It'd certainly be nice to put together some script to log in to all of the BBSes I like periodically, check their non-networked message bases, and maybe even ping some games I don't want to idle out on. ;) Though, all things considered, I guess I could do that in 'expect' script, also. That's proven tough to find a decent tutorial on, though.

Unfortunatly, Telemate does not do Telnet as it was only a COMMS program through serial ports. I would love to get a serial to LAN converter somehow get Telemate to be able to "dial a URL"..

But, I am using Procomm Plus 4.8 for Windows to connect to BBS's these days.

if you run under dosbox you can dial a hostname like this:

If you look into the doxbox.conf file, there's a setting for each serial
port, and a way to tell it to "dial" over a specific IP port. Sorry I can't
be more specific, I don't have a copy available right now.

Once you do that, typing in ATDT hostname works.

There's a few programs out there that'll let you dial out to tcp-ip. I use apps like this to connect with my C64 or A800 to BBSs. I just ATDI (ipaddress) (port) and the PC acts as a translator.

okay i put it on bbs torrents.

    Thanks.
I downloaded the torrent and loaded it in my torrent software, but it's not moving. It seems there are no peers offering it.

I take that back. My download has completed. Thanks.

I just got a copy of Telemate 4.20 running under DOSbox, and I'm wondering h I'm supposed to register it. I can probably find some old registration info online, but I can't tell where I'm supposed to enter it. Do I just wait unti the evaluation period expires?

I just did a test in the hopes that back in the early 1990's registration codes were not that smart.

My paid for Telemate 4.21 registration code consists of TM followed by 9 digits. I attempted to register Telemate using my name and TM with a random 9 digit code. This did not work. So the code DOES somehow know what name it should be.

However, I remember seeing a Telemate Registration Code generator one tiime, wish I had kept that...

I dont know why you thought using your name and a random 9 digit code would work.

if anything the code would work and it wouldnt care about your name.

but anyways, i used regit and registered telemate 4.21

    Enjoy your registered version.

though. Unfortunatly, Telemate does not do Telnet as it was only a COMMS program through serial ports. I would love to get a serial to LAN converter somehow get Telemate to be able to "dial a URL"..

As I'm sure has been mentioned since I've been on almost a month hiatus due to upgrade debauchery, there are pseudo-serial-port emulators that will allow you to send an ATDwhateversite.org in order to provide a full telnet/ssh-> dialup experience.

Just run it in DOSBox, it has a modem emulator where you can just dial a hostname / IP
address and it'll connect over TCP/IP.

I am using DOSBox right now and my Telemate 4.21 to writew this. So for me, this works nicely. Except downloads don't work 99% of the time..

My best guess would be to look at any pseudo-serial port flow control
options and start toggling for something like that...

Hmm... In the DOS days, there was X00 and another fossil driver.. Might try one of those.

What's your "serial port" speed set to? When I use DOSBox/Telix, I need to set the port speed to 38400. At 57600, I get a bunch of errors.

Are you using Zmodem? Ymodem might work if Zmodem doesn't.

I set my port speed to 115200N81 and I OBLY get errors on downloads (have not tried uploads). No errors on browsing BBSs, just on downloading.

In a way, it is OK, I also have Procomm Plus 4.8 for Windows and it uploads, downloads and browses just fine.

I use ZModem. I will try Y and the others..
