This is mainly a rant, but I'm starting to really lose confidence in traditional (rotational) hard drives. When I built my current PC almost 2 years ago, I bought a 1.5TB Hitachi hard drive for it. Right from the start, it was questionable in that sometimes when I started my PC, the hard drive would make clicking noises and sometimes the motherboard wouldn't recognize the hard drive. I finally RMA'd it a few weeks ago and decided to also replace it with a 2TB Seagate hard drive. Now, this Seagate drive is not being recognized by my PC.. The only reason my PC is booted is because I put an SSD in it some time ago, which is now the boot drive. All of my data is on the 2TB hard drive though. Having 2 hard drives in 2 years become flaky is really frustrating.. Seems statistically improbable.

either bad hds or your motherboards drive tables are failing
see if there is a bios update for it.

I have the latest firmware. It seems that it may be the hard drive that's bad. I moved the drive into an external enclosure and plugged it into my PC via USB, and my PC still didn't recognize the drive.

In the last few years, buying 1TB+ media, both internal and external, I've found that you really get what you pay for. If you pick up something with 1 year service & warranty, don't be surprised when it poops out after 18 months. Two years? It'll be a paperweight by three. The most recent drives I've purchased have had 3-5 year service and warranty on them, and I'm really hoping that's going to maximize the return to the investment I put into those suckers.

though. Having 2 hard drives in 2 years become flaky is really frustrating. Seems statistically improbable.

Statistically you maybe right but probably wrong. Through the years I have always purchased used pcs and hardware. In fact I would go to "Pc Shows" with small vendors and buy from them really cheap. I've never had a problem with any of it. 3 years ago I purchased a HP/Compaq laptop brand new. My very
first new PC. 2 weeks after the 30 day warrenty from best buy was up it crapped out completly. I didn't purchase the extended warranty because even
my old pcs still worked. They were just too slow. Welp, I sure learned a lesson and now know NEW is not neccesarily better! Right now I'm posting this message with a used netbook I got on ebay for $100.00. I'll never buy NEW again. That's my story and I'm stickin to it! ;-)

sounds like the issue is PEbtkac ? operator error?
