Hi all -

I just built a new computer with an Intel Core i7 3.4ghz CPU. The motherboard's BIOS says the CPU temperature is around 51 Celsius. That seems
a bit hot to me, particularly for a brand-new system.. I thought these CPUs ran cooler. Does anyone know what the normal temperature of this CPU should be?

My motherboard also came with a piece of software that tells the CPU temperature and other system stats, and the software says my CPU is running around 30-32 Celsius.. seems closer to normal. I'm not sure which is more accurate though, the software or the BIOS.

Isn't that only like 123.8F? I wouldn't think that is considered a bit hot at all, is it?

I typically see temperatures of around 30-40C when a CPU is idle, so 51 seemed a little warm to me. I remember having PCs that would shut down when the CPU got to around 55-60C (if I remember right).

I'm used to seeing CPU temperatures in celsius, since that's what most software & BIOSes seem to use when reporting CPU & system temperature.

Different processors are rated for different temperatures. You'd have
to go to Intel's website and look up the specs to be sure what "normal" is.

I'd go by the BIOS temp. There are several different sensors on a mother- board, and I wouldn't trust a software package to know better than the
BIOS. Also, make sure the temp in your software package is the CPU temp,
not the case temp or some other reading.

Had a quick look online and ppl are stating upto 90c is normal.

I'm using a XIGMATEK HDT-S1284EE; and it stays around 46C @ 3GHZ on idle, and around 67C on full load. Is this around normal?

EDIT: I don't know if that is right, using ASUS PC Proble II says the CPU temp is 46C, but Core temp says that all my cores are at or around 40C; at full load, all the cores seem to stay around 60C.

Yes, thats why I think its the power supply, but why it doesn't give out at any other time is beyond me.
