I want to build a Simple antenna out of wire. I have a lot from speaker wire.
I only have a rubber ducky antenna and I've made wire antennas before to receive but I don't have an SWR meter or anything of that sort so I'm curious to what would be a good length for 2M without having to resort to worrying about damaging the unit.

    Google "2M J-Pole".

You can make a 1/4 wave, 1/2 wave, 3/4 wave.. whatever you want. There is 3.2808399 feet in 1 Meter so it is prettyeasy to figure out. You might want to invest in an SWR meter, IMHO it is the most important tool you can have in the radio hobby.

If your using it for TV or FM, Simple Coat Hanger Wire will do.
If your Building a Ham Radio Antenna, Then I Recommend Copper Wire, Real Thick or or Copper Tubing. Coal it around a PVC Pipe 1 or 2 " Should be ok.
Just Depend on the WATTS your using.

Also Depends on whether your using for your car. Then you will have Build a Support Structor for it.

To Say I want to build a Antenna will not get a direct answer.
    So many variables.
