Why would it sound silly? Even so, there's a tape out there (you can probably find the mp3) called "The Rhythm of the Code". It's really cheesy, but it's basically morse code to music. Probably the main thing you need to do is learn to recognize the sets of dots and dashes as a unique character by their sound, rather than counting them to figure out what the character is. The only way you can do that is by lots of repitition.

So, I'd highly recommend that tape. Aside from that, the morse code tutor programs will probably help too, and there are several of those on the intarwebs.

I learned by taking an occilator to work with me, when I worked midnight shift as a police radio dispatcher back in 1990. I learned to send and receive somewhat this way, plus I'd listen on the air. But you really lean the alphabet by sending it I think. We started out just using a few vowells and easy letters like a .- e . i .. o --- u ..- m -- t - s ... and as these few were learned you could spell short words.

    --... ...-- -.. . -.- -.. ---.. .-. .- -.--
