    Does anyone know a method of inline or injecting a PL tone to an
    existing signal source?

    Probably depends a lot on your radio. PL/CTCSS boards are available for many older models that didn't come with it built in. You could probably build your own and incorporate it into the microphone, assuming the (subaudible) tone will make it past any filters; if not, the device would have to be attached a bit further along.
