• Satellite Antennas?

From Knight@VERT/PHUNC to All on Thursday, May 05, 2016 01:29:02
I have long been interested in satellites, and I really want to communicate on them, particulary the CubeSats. Most of the tutorials I have seen have nerds standing in their huge yards, their HTs at 90 degree angles and following the birds, or using a home brewed PVC yagi that looks like an attack weapon.

This is impractical since I want to do digital decoding and transmissions (AX.25, QAV, etc) and it would not be ideal to be manually waving antennas around in the sky.

Also, I live in a huge and restrictive condo community (I know, I know, I plan to move). So I can't really be standing out in the driveways with my gear all set up, and there's no way I can put up any antenna towers or anything on the roof.

I feel like I have no options.

But ideally, I'd love to do something similar to a long wire, or even something on my small patio. I don't have much view of the sky, so the antenna would have to be able to pick up the signal through some small buildings.

Am I left with any choices? I'm willing to throw money at this.
