So, where do some of you hang out on VHF/UHF repeaters or simplex frequencies, if any? As I have been getting back into the hobby, I
Greetings from Central Califronia.
I mostly hang out on the local repeaters. From analog to DSTAR, etc. The
local amateur radio club has repeaters using many formats, including
analog, DSTAR, P25, and DMR and on many different bands. Our repeater is located at 7500 feet above sea level and about 7200 feet above the local terrain of the San Joaquin Valley.
We are very fornunate for the site we have as it covers a VERY large
protion of the valley and the Sierra Nevada back-country.
I occasionally hang out on the lower bands, but not too often, even with an Extra Class license. I have it mainly for being a Volunteer Examiner.
I used to just talk to hams I knew personally years ago, seems more
fun to just throw the callsign out and find new people to hear
stories from and discuss technology with.
I tend to do this as well. As a local truck driver for a lowbed company, I
do get around. I used to have APRS, 2 meter and HF in the truck. However, I drive a new truck and the boss says no radios. I occasionally take a hand
held radio and put an external antenna on the passenger side window.
