From MIKE POWELL@VERT/CAPCITY2 to SPACE CHIPPY on Saturday, January 22, 2005 06:03:00
I live in the UK, so owning a gun isn't an option. I had a 22 rifle when
    I lived in Arizona

Out of curiousity, does anyone over there hunt anymore?

i have phyiscal issues that prevent me from hunting larger game.. such as deer. A bad back coupled with muscle problems in my legs.. it was diagnosed back when i was 15ish but i've long forgotten what it was called.

Yes, they do. Although they just banned Fox Hunting, which involves
letting your hounds tear the things to bits, as opposed to shooting them.

I was talking about handguns when I said you couldn't get hold a firearm

i'm glad they banned fox hunting.. 'cause where the hell is the hunt? that's more like seek and destroy. i'm not a animals rights activiest.. but to me that would be right up their alley dont ya think? training another animals to kill and destroy another? kinda like dog fighting or cock fighting. i don't agree with those either.. but i'm all about putting a gun in someone's hand and letting them go on a rampage with other humans.. it does kinda sound like i'm A.A but for sure i am not. because i do hunt. i believe in a quick painless kill for the game. the least amount of suffering. oh well.. i'm

Animals -- dogs in particular -- have been used to hunt for thousands of years. Hounds of all sorts are bred for hunting. Even the dachshund was bread specifically for hunting badgers (and are shaped to persue badgers
into their setts). Setters and pointers are all hunting dogs, as are terriers.

Hawks are used for fowling. Cormorants are used for fishing.

There is nothing at all abnormal about dogs (and other creatures) being
    used to hunt.

The fox population swings from 250,000 to 500,000 in Britain each season,
with 100,000 being caught in snares and left to die slowly, and the others dying from natural causes. Fox hunting accounts for 16,000 foxes a year,
and these are almost always ageing animals in ill health, that should be culled anyway.

kinda like dog fighting or cock fighting. i don't

i don't have a problem in using an animal to 'track' another animal for the hunt. it's when humans use other animals for mere entertainment in a disguesting fashion such as what was stated earlier.

but it was stated that foxes are tracked and then ripped apart usually by the fox hunters. to me that's not hunting and besides this isn't the middle ages when you needed all the help you could get to have food that that day. we're talking about a recerational past time that isn't really needed but is kept
to satisfy man kinds animablistic nature. this in my eyes isn't a good thing.

in western new york, maybe mostly in the united states our fox population has dwingled down to almost ntohing.. but the last 5 years they have been returning.. i don't know the numbers and don't really care to be honest.. but i'm all for preserving nature as long as it doesn't interfere with the 'natural course' that nature wanted as an outcome.

Well my Scoped Sniper Rifle can see them, But it's another thing to hit them a at a 100 yards tho, so i just send my attack cat after them, MEAN little cat,
i think that cat hate small animals in my yard as much as i do!

Needless to say the 45 and 50 degree weather just when back down to 0 degrees and snowing! DAM CAT! LOL

I've seen this CAT see a squarel in the yard and shot across the room and smash right into the window LOL, then look at me as if it was my fault.

Moral of the storie is leave them ankle beaters alone unless you like long winters!
