Many years ago my father (with a little help from his friends) built a gun. He never took any photos, that I am aware of, but others did, and a friend in England has just sent me a link to a photo of the gun my dad built. I never fired it, but I remember it being fired when I was a kid of around 10, and I've played with it a few times since. If you're interested in seeing a photo:

The biggest trouble with it was the cost of the ammo.....

Thats not a gun, thats a fricken cannon! :)

I can understand why they pointed it straight up to fire it too. It
looks a bit thin and would probably have buckled if shot any other way.
    :)

I have actually felt the ground shake when it fired, and I was 6.5 miles away at the time. I'm not kidding, I just measured the distance on an Ordinance Survey map -- Paragon to Lodge, 6.5 miles.

BTW, the guy who was the mastermind behind this was eventually assassinated by the Israelis!

The reason every army wants to be able to use captured ammo, but have
their ammo incompatible with the enemy's weapons.
