I never owned an Amiga, but I had used them occasionally, and they seemed like good computers. From what I've heard, it seemed they were ahead of their time in the 80s, but as we know, they faded away and other computer platforms caught up.

I'd love one. They're a tad bit expensive nowadays on eBay but a 500 or 1200 would be a fantastic system to play around with. I haven't had any experience with Amiga since the early 90's but I do have fond memories. And yes, the games were awesome. I like Flashback, Shadow of the Beast, Lemmings, Street Fighter II and The Settlers the most!/s

The Atari ST and Amiga 500 were very similar both in appearance, performance and gaming catalogue. As far as I know, the ST was released many years before the Amiga though.

They both launched in 1985. The Amiga did take a bit longer to get into circulation though. It seems to largely depend on the market you're in
terms of which system you're likely to find more of floating around.

I really didn't know that, I always saw the Amiga as a late 80's or early 90's computer... seems like your explanation for that makes a lot of sense though. I own neither but would appreciate owning either as both are iconic machines in my eyes.

The Vampire FPGA cards look really cool. The v4 Standalone looks like what I would likely go for. I'm very intrested in picking up a 500 or 1200 so that I can hollow out the case and fit a coule of 1L IXP boards, maybe some Rasberry Pis in the thing and turn it into a modern retro "Cyberdeck"

I haven't have any experiance with the systems otherwise from what I've seen in my research.
