• Basic Computer Games MICROCOMPUTER EDITION

    Hello guys!
I wanna ask for help. I have downloaded two basic games books. (I have uploaded it on bbs.dmine.net:24 a.k.a. Diamond Mine Online so visit it!)
I was experimentating with it and I do not know what microcomputer choose.
Well 1st book is "BASIC COMPUTER GAMES MICROCOMPUTER EDITION". If you watch The 8-Bit Guy on YouTube, he recorded a video "The Basics of BASIC" and he used this book so I downloaded it.
2nd book is called "More BASIC Computer Games TRS-80 EDITION".
For 1st book I used C64 but there are some syntax errors. I should use Commodore PET. (I am using VICE Emulators for it.)
For 2nd one i tried using C64 too but there are lots of weird commands for C64. Filenames for these two books are in Miscellanious Uploads.

    THX!
    Cheers,
    Basschestra

What do you need help with? Also, the "Programming" sub-board might be better suited for this topic.

So, BASIC really isn't a hard standard and many systems added commands that were proprietary to their systems.

"BASIC computer games Microcomputer edition" are programs that are more generic BASIC (knowingly avoiding those proprietary commands and trying to use BASIC commands that were common across all micros at the time).

"BASIC computer games TRS-80 edition" are programs that knowingly use those proprietary commands that are in TRS-80 (probably Level II) BASIC.

So, if you are running on a TRS-80, use the TRS-80 book.

If you aren't, use the Microcomputer book. But the programs there won't use the enhanced features of your computer (ex: like color if you are on a C-64/VIC). And it will treat your screen as pretty much a glass teletype.

About a month before I bought my first PC, a Commodore 64 Personal Computer,
I bought a book at Radio Shack with the Title:

"The BASIC Conversions Handbook for APPLE, TRS-80, and PET Users",
    Radio Shack Catalog No. 62-2088.

PET is the name of the Commodore "Personal Electronic Transactor" PC that was available as a Kit or already Built.

PETSCII was the name Commodore used for the BASIC System in the their PET, Vic=20 and C=64 PC's.

I had tried out the various PC Brands in stores that had a DEMO Machine turned On for Customers to try using.

That Radio Shack book shows how to type in Programs written in BASIC for the TRS-80 to Run on the two other makes of Computers, and Vice Versa, for Code written in BASIC to Run on the other two makes of Computers.
