She also often forgets the names of common objects and makes up her own new names for them. Tongs are called "hot dog tweasers", hedge trimmers are called "bush scissors", and most recetly, brushes are called
    "painty thingies."

We have a few pair of oven mitts around the kitchen. We also have this red one which
just covers the ends of your fingers & thumb - Easy to pick up & use with one hand
and perfect for things like cookie sheets etc.

One day we were in the kitchen & the oven timer goes off. My other half casually
says to me: "Can you hand me the quack quack?"

    Me: "The what?!"
Him (more exasperated as the oven timer continues):
"The quack quack! The quack quack!!"
Me: "I have no idea what you're talking about!"

Now, he's never called it that before. He steps around me, opens a drawer and pulls out that smaller oven mitt. He then holds it up like a puppet:

    Him: "See? Quack Quack!"

To him it looks like a duck bill, so he just thought I'd get it.

We still joke about that today.

    That's awesome.

When my wife can't remember the name of something, she just calls it a "thingie" and I have to infer the rest from context (which, to be fair, is usually easy enough).

I've been making up lots of dumb names for stuff lately. Upon having his first ever bite of toast last week, my son sucked away all of the butter and then spit out the bread. I now call pieces of toast "butter sponges", since from his perspective that's all they are (and he doesn't know what *anything* is called yet).
