I think this has been mentioned in the past, but that market move fast.

So I'm wondering what you guys are doing.

I have that house now in the country and I would like to monitor it.
There is all kind of solution like the infamous RING doorbell from
amazon. All the kind product form all kind of maker that work with
google voice, alexa and even apple HomeKit. ( but I'm not crazy about
google and amazon smart offerings )

I admit that I'm prejudice to something HomeKit because it would play
nice with my apple 5H17. But I'm also tempted by open source solution derivable with raspberry pi like https://kerberos.io/ which look cook.

Got the place hooked to a 30 mb/s internet ( fastest speed offered in
that area ) unlimited so i can upload stuff to remote location. Already
    have a https://syncthing.net/ and https://www.resilio.com/ setup there
already to backup stuff I have here for backup purpose so it can go the
    other way too.

So I was just bouncing idea around on how i would implement the easy way buying something like an eve cam, easy but expensive or go the cheaper
but more involving way with kerberos. Just want it to be reliable. want something that would recover from power failure etc.

So I wonder how you wise people solved this ?

p.s. I don't have to get my hand dirty, since I run a linux bbs for
years, run my audio with https://volumio.org/ on a pi and fix my own
hardware. But like I said I do want it reliable enough and maintenance
free enough that the time i spend there is not just about fixing and
updating stuff. Have enough hobbies like that :-D

From my experience with home security cameras what i learned is you get what you pay for and read all the reiews.

i have arlo cams and they are hit or miss. they dont capture everything and they need to be a bit sideways on an object to detect motion.

wifi trail cameras might be a better bet. put 2 cameras in the same area at different angles to ensure you get everything and the higher up you go, the more you can capture.
also changing batteries sucks. and it's gonna go dead a lot so try to find some way to power it with solar or direct power
