I find web forums slow and cumbersome. It's like trying to wade
through treacle.
Good webforums, like vogons.org and forum.dlang.org run quite well. The
good thing about some forums, is they are searchable, very useful for places where people are asking questions and for help.
Facebook is the worst of both worlds. Not only is it slow, it's not searchable.

Facebook GROUPS *are* searchable. I am only familiar with one group that
I need to visit every once in a while:
For a faster experience on Facebook, try the mobile interface. Works just fine on a regular pc. Just start your visit with https://m.facebook.com
With the implosion of XMPP and the failure of open source social network efforts to gain traction. Not to mention also rans like Gab, Minds,
Parler, Wehe and others to gain much traction... I'm not sure there's
room for upstarts anymore. Gab got close, then there were shutterred by Google for not censoring content (and yeah, there was some offensive
shit in there). Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have effectively a lock
in social media (and the upstarts have been bought by FB).

Also, don't forget Gab is hated by lots of payment processors and thus
is being denied income, which is a troublesome blow for any firm.

Gab's not dead. They've garnered a massive influx of new users the last month or so. The owner has been bragging about it.
As long as half the country is at risk of being censored on social media, gab will continue to exist. They don't have to be the largest to succeed.
With respect to offensive comments, people have grown so hypersensitive that they're attempting to redefine free speech. Anyway, it's easy enough to block someone on these networks.
For the record, I don't have an account on gab or any other social network, but
I am watching the drama.

Most likely, Parler has seen a massive uptick as well. I've also
enjoyed it a bit more than Gab.

I completely agree... I'm not saying they should be cancelled, only
that the network was largely that (racist commentary) when I first
looked at it, of course my initial impression of Pinterest was
offputting (looked like a site for teenage girls) as well.
I'm tracker1 or aztracker1 on most social media sites.
