I'm not quite sure this would fit into the 'Pro-Audio Discussion' sub-board, so I'm posting here.

My dad had a Roland MT-32 in the late 80s - I'm pretty sure he bought one soon after they came out. I heard they were released in 1987, which sounds about right. He bought it mainly for use with his synthesizer, for music, but we found it also had support as a sound device for many MS-DOS games. It seems most people who are familiar with it these days know it as a sound device for DOS games.

I bought a used one of my own in 2004 from eBay, and later resold it. But now I'm thinking of buying one again.. I currently have a Roland Juno-G synthesizer, but I thought it would be fun to have an MT-32 for a more retro synth vibe (I suppose a Roland Juno-106 synthesizer would be fitting for a retro synth - my dad had one of those too, and it was a cool synth). I'd probably use the MT-32 mostly for music. I've heard there were 2 versions of it, and I'd probably be interested in finding one of the 'new' versions. I've heard the new version fixed a buffer overflow error, and also had a headphone jack in addition to the 2 separate audio output jacks. I've also seen firmware ROM update chips for sale, which I've heard fix the buffer overflow issue. It seems the 2nd version is fairly rare though.

If you are looking for a newer model, you might consider the soundcanvas series, like the SC-88. I think they do MT-32 emulation, but you'd have to
    read up on that.

I kinda want a real MT-32.. I guess mainly because I used to use a MT-32 a long time ago, so there's even more of a vintage factor with it for me.
