The ads for Facebook's (hands free) Portal look ideal. The way the camera follows the subject around the room is interesting.

Even a large wallmounted tv package would be great for permanent residents.

A tv/rollingcart would be good for others.

No, this was for a company, but the tech is sound in either application (corporate or health care)

BTW, I just read an article that surmises that Skype is practically dead.

I knew a fellow that quite relied on Skype to be intouch with his sister and several of his grand children in the UK on a regular basis from his home here in Canada.

The problems started when he was "forced" to upgrade to a newer version of Skype. I couldn't believe it and told him never to click on any upgrade prompts. But apparently he was right. The previous perfectly operating installation of Skype simply refused to run unless the user installed a newer version.

After a home visit to reinstall a previous version of Skype, I showed him how to get around the forced-upgrade problem, albiet briefly. I forget the details, but basically it required renaming a file and killing a process. This fellow was well into is eighties and quite confortable using a computer, but messing around with processes was getting old fast. And.. sometimes when he accidentally clicked on the upgrade request, it required another home visit to restore a previous version.

He was using an XP machine. The newer Skype would seemingly install fine, but the live communications part wouldn't work.

He was not prepared to invest in a new pc and all the trouble to learn a new os. We were both frustrated at Skype. As long as he remembered to cancel the upgrade request, he could still use the version that worked quite smoothly on his XP machine.

As time permitted, I continued to research alternative videoconference solutions (and even Facebook's option)..but his health was failing and the fellow passed away about 6 moths later.
