Each sysop should have a trusted friend or relative who can relay a message
to another sysop on their demise, hospitalization, incapacitated or

Well I was concerned because of the way he disappeared. I have had several sysop friends pass away i.e., Thorny and Eli Sanford. We usually just get

That could be useful. Though, there's a software tool that I've been using (for Windows) that will start Synchronet if it's not running, and I have that set up to run on a timer every 10 minutes or so. I've found that for me, Synchronet seems to consistently take up more and more RAM until it crashes; then that other program will restart it when it sees Synchronet isn't running. I still haven't really looked at that in-depth to see why it's happening for me.

I'm thinking more of something external that tests availability from the public Internet. It could check DNS settings, domain registration, SSL validity, service availability, etc.

Again, just a wild thought. I've already written several monitoring programs for other types of systems. I'm not looking for a new project, but if there really is a need, I could become interested.

I saw my first airliner in the sky, normally airliners follow along the
coast to get to/from southern California. Had to pull out the binoculars to see if it was civilian or millitary.

I just read that airlines are going to have to block off middle seats.
    That'll be interesting to see.

I've seen the occasional airliner, but nowhere near as many as normal.

Our government hasn't yet released recovery details for air travel yet, so no idea here.

The Magician of the Ivory Tower brought his latest invention for the Master Programmer to examine. The Magician wheeled a large black box into the Master's office while the Master waited in silence.

"This is an integrated, distributed, general-purpose workstation," began the Magician, "ergonomically designed with a proprietary operating system, sixth generation languages, and multiple state of the art user interfaces. It took my assistants several hundred man years to construct. Is it not amazing?"

The Master Programmer raised his eyebrows slightly. "It is indeed amazing," he said.

"Corporate Headquarters has commanded," continued the Magician, "that everyone use this workstation as a platform for new programs. Do you agree to this?"

"Certainly," replied the Master. "I will have it transported to the Data Center immediately!" And the Magician returned to his tower, well pleased.

Several days later, a novice wandered into the office of the Master Programmer and said, "I cannot find the listing for my new program. Do you know where it might be?"

"Yes," replied the Master, "the listings are stacked on the platform in the Data Center."
