that's just a base to start with... we have been getting that and doctoring it a bit for years... but we leave it naked so those who want to add alcohol to it can and they can add as much as they like... i will admit, tho, that sometimes we do go ahead and spike it up... those are marked with a note that it is already loaded...

it is easier to buy those pre-made ones but they are not nearly as good as the real home-made thing...

That's true. Mum makes the best egg nog that I've ever tasted, but it's also potent. Don't know what spirits are in it, but one has to be really careful, because it goes down like a milkshake and *BAM* the alcohol kicks in. :D

I sometimes drink a soda at any time of day and it doesn't seem to bother me much at all - though I know soda doesn't have as much caffeine as coffee.

I sometimes drink a soda at any time of day and it doesn't seem to
bother me much at all - though I know soda doesn't have as much caffeine as coffee.

It still has quite a bit. Also depends on how many.

I'm not so bad. I quit drinking coffee sometime in the mid-afternoon. My grandparents on my dad's side however, had a pot on the stove going all day. They'd go to bed about 8:30 and be up and going before 5:00am.

I force myself to quit drinking before 5ish in the afternoon now. From my early teens until my mid 30s or so I drank several of the large carafes a day on my own (I think they're 12 cup ones). Usually about 2-3 pots a day, I should say. Either way, it finally caught up with me in the way of massive anxiety and inability to sleep. I'm kind of glad it did, I'm surprised all the stimulant action didn't suck the majority of the minerals right out of my body.
Finally made it to the point where I drink 4 regular sized mugs of coffee a day. I'm trying to cut it down to 3, but work makes it rough to cut. I'm gonna have to try subbing tea at some point here, I think.
My parents didn't drink coffee or tea at all, though my mother did have the occasional soda. I think that I got my coffee addiction from my paternal grandmother; she was like the grandparents you were describing, a pot on all day every day. Utter insanity. These days I wish I never would've started when I had to cram for that test in junior high school. Heh. Just another monkey on the back.

nope... RW&B is its own brand...

    https://www.google.com/search?q=red+white+%26+blue+beer

my buddy and i used to dump a 12pack of RW&B into a 5gallon bucket with ice and tote it between the two of us as we wandered around on fri and sat nights... it was a decent but cheap bear like pabst, milwaukee's best, schlitz, and others of that ilk...

what i find funny is that if you ask uncle google about "cheap american beers" they list a lot of popular brands that are no where near as cheap as the three i list above... at least not from the pricing i remember back in the '70s and '80s

I've had migraines before - The kind where in half of my body (opposite where my head hurt), I'd have things like numbness, spots in my vision, more difficult motor control, slurred speech, etc., and sometimes I'd throw up after a while. That was a long time ago, and not related to coffee.

Although white can "Beer" sounds awesome. :)

It was baaad. But when you only had a few bucks...

I don't like beer in general, let alone bad beer.. I've never liked the taste of beer, and after drinking beer (and certain other alcoholic drinks like Mike's Hard Lemonade etc.), I tend to feel almost like I have a cold, with a sore throat and sometimes a stuffy nose, and I have a hard time sleeping (so naturally, the next day I don't feel my best). I tend not to feel bad like that after drinking wine & some mixed drinks.

The white can BEER I believe was made/marketed by Jimmy Carter's brother... LOL

There also was a Billy Beer ( have an old, old can). Opened unfortunately. This was made by Jimmy's brother also.

I'm down to 2 large (16oz) a day. I try to do a day without, but not always successful.

I'm pretty sure that's about what I'm at on most days now, too. Though I've admittedly gone a little bit over that today. I was down to 3/4 of that for a little bit, but it went back up when my daily workload jumped and I've not yet been able to get it back down easily again. I really need to try to swap out one of my daily cups of coffee with tea and see if that helps at all. I want to be free of it and see if it improves my overall energy level throughout the day (not having to ride the caffeine energy spike rollercoaster all day and everythign). I was off of it for awhile when I was like 23 or so and I remember it being really nice without the mood & energy peaks and valleys. Too bad that's the only time in my life since like 14 that I experienced that. Hard to remember these days.

Texas? You also could get white can with BEER stenciled on it at Kroger for $1 a six back in '79.

I remember the no name beer at kroger in the late 70's as well, but it tasted like S*it lol, so we wound up with lonestar usually.

I actually think that may have come out during the brief period where some companies/politicians/people were actually pushing the idea of "generic" products... not just in house store brands but actual products that had no brand at all. The idea was that they'd be cheaper to consumers. I was a little young then to be a buying consumer but, based on the few things my parents brought home in the plain white containers, I would say the
contents were also quite a bit cheaper than their brand counterparts.

Things that the government gave out, like cheese, also came in those plain white containers.
