Do you remember the olden days when some authors of BBS external software would
ask for beerware/cardware? I thought that was an interesting idea. But did the >marketing idea really work that successfully? Or was it a total bust?

No. I am assuming that cardware was where they would only ask you to send
a postcard from where you were from, but the only time I could see beerware working would be if you lived nearby (i.e. "buy me a beer").

Sunrise Doors are now free/donationware. You can register them all, but preference is given to those who donate to the coffee fund. I guess you
    could call it coffeeware? :)

my take was "buy me a beer ((the next time|when) we see each other)"... i like this one from the ArtNode nodelist processor released in 1993... i registered it immediately and used it for my nodelist processing/merging right up until i started using the daily nodelists... the daily nodelists are easier since you only need to copy them in place and then maybe generate new indexes if your systems uses such... no diffs or merging problems to deal with at all ;)

    8. The TequilaNetmailware Concept and the Registration

This program was written for my own use. I was getting tired of
getting an errorlevel exit from Xlaxnode when compiling the
Reg_32 nodelist created by NlNet for my "France Calls Only"
machine, and also for the programming fun.

The longest and most boring part was to write this f...... doc
    you are reading right now!

So I think it would be unlegitimate for me to ask you any money
for it. But then again, it's not exactly freeware ....

Because I would like to know how many people are using The Art
Node Lister and also because I like Tequila, I'm asking you, if
you use Artnode, to send me a Netmail telling me that next time
we will meet (who knows...) you'll offer me a Tequila!

If you do so, I'll put on hold a Netmail for you with your own
"registration" key to get rid of the annoying opening delay.

The Netmail must be sent to Philippe Feuerstein 2:323/3@fidonet
and you can use the "Tequila.Reg" file for this purpose.

Remember, you MUST send me a Netmail and offer me a Tequila
    next time we meet!!!

and no, i haven't seen philippe yet but when i do, i will certainly offer him a tequila as promised...

I have received mine. They seem to work fine with the doors that were originally Sunrise Doors (i.e. the ones where you put the key value in the config files). I have had diffculty with the one that I have tried so far
that actually requires a *.KEY file be placed into the game directory.

The installer for the latest 16-bit DOS version of said door, ironically, requires a Win32 system (or greater) to actually run, so it could be a
version mis-match I am running into with the previous "DOS installable"
version (I don't have a Win32 OS on that machine).

Yes, I did put in a ticket for it. I was never certain, however, whether
or not he understood that I was saying that the installer required a higher version of windows than its concents. His responses (original and
follow-up) half-way sounded like he thought I was saying it would not run
with windows at all (if that was the case, I'd not have cared <grin>).

I did have access to a laptop with a version of windows they installers
would run on. So I ran them there, copied the resulting directories over
to a USB, and then copied the resultings from the USB over to the system I actually wanted them on. That worked. Once I was done I uninstalled them
    from the windows laptop.

Quest For Nora, IIRC. I have upgraded/installed a few of the Sunrise doors over the past couple of weeks, but I am pretty sure that was the first one
    I attempted.
